Malaria
Malaria remains a significant global public health burden, with an estimated 263 million cases and 597,000 deaths worldwide in 2023. The majority of this burden, approximately 94% of cases and 95% of deaths, occurred in Africa, where children under five and pregnant women are particularly vulnerable.
Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis killed 1.25 million people last year, making it the world’s leading cause of death from an infectious disease. But it receives only $5.7 billion of the $22 billion of funding needed. Drug-resistant strains are surging and cases are climbing again. We look at the problem, and what solutions exist.
Lead Exposure
Lead poisoning is the hidden pandemic stripping IQ points and opportunity from one in three children, and causing 1.5 million deaths a year but receives a fraction of the funding better-known diseases enjoy. From backyard battery recycling to lead-laced spices, the sources are fixable and the solutions are inexpensive.
